How to start learning English at A1
English Path editorial · Oct 22, 2026
Build a short daily routine with useful words, simple sentences and regular review.
Start with a small goal
At A1, aim to introduce yourself, understand familiar words and write simple sentences. You do not need to understand every word in a video or a book.
Practise for ten minutes
Spend three minutes reading a short lesson, three minutes saying new sentences aloud and four minutes reviewing words. A regular routine is easier to maintain than a long session once a month.
Use words in sentences
Do not learn only the word "student". Learn "I am a student." Change the sentence to make it true for you. Then ask a question: "Are you a student?"
Review and check
Use flashcards to recall a word before you look at its meaning. Take a short quiz after a lesson. Read each explanation, including explanations for answers you got right.
Notice your progress
Mark a lesson complete after you can use its main sentences. Return to it later. Review helps you remember, and mistakes show you what to practise next.
